Operational management
What stock management means in a logistics warehouse
Stock management is more than recording an available quantity. For goods to be located, tracked and prepared correctly for dispatch, stock information has to be matched continuously with the physical operations in the warehouse.
The process starts at goods receiving, when products are taken into stock, and continues with allocating them to storage locations. Along the way, the WMS records the information relevant to the project and the movements made on the stock.
Stock and location
The operational record links the goods under management to the location where they are stored, so the stock can be found in the workflow.
Batch and shelf life
For products where this information matters, stock can be tracked by batch and expiry date.
Stock receipts, issues and transfers
Operations that change the position or quantity of the goods are recorded in the WMS, from receiving and transfers between locations to issuing stock for order preparation.
Rotation rules
Depending on the products and the project's requirements, stock can be managed by FIFO or FEFO rules.
Traceability through WMS
From where the goods are to the history of stock movements
The WMS supports operational traceability by linking stock to the information needed to manage it in the warehouse. Depending on the project, the record can include the storage location, the batch, the shelf life and the operations recorded on the goods.
The system information follows what physically happens to the goods: entering the warehouse, being allocated to a location, being moved within the warehouse and being selected for dispatch. Where products need checking, the flow can be supplemented with scan control.

Stock rotation
FIFO and FEFO when allocating stock for dispatch
The rotation rule sets which stock is picked first when goods enter order preparation. The choice between FIFO and FEFO depends on the products and the project's operational requirements.
FIFO
First In, First Out
Priority goes to the stock received first. The rule keeps goods rotating in an orderly way, by when they entered stock.
FEFO
First Expired, First Out
Priority goes to the products with the nearest expiry date. The rule matters for goods where the expiry date affects the order in which they leave the warehouse.
Operational record
Stock management and stock reporting play different roles
Stock management tracks the goods in the warehouse operationally: where they are, what information is linked to the stock and what movements have been made on it.
Stock reporting uses the data recorded in the flow to present the status of stock and movements. This part is covered separately in our stock reporting service.
E-commerce integration
The TCE Logiplus platform can integrate with any e-commerce platform on the market, to take in orders and pass on the data the warehouse operations need.
Veterinary-sanitary authorised warehouse
TCE Logiplus operates a veterinary-sanitary authorised warehouse for products of animal and non-animal origin, from EU and non-EU countries, within the limits and conditions set by the applicable authorisations.

Frequently asked questions
Questions about stock management
What information about our stock can be tracked in the WMS?
Depending on the project, the record can include the storage location, the batch, the shelf life and the movements recorded on the stock.
How are goods tracked after they are received into the warehouse?
After receiving, goods are taken into stock and allocated to storage locations. Later operations on the stock are recorded in the WMS according to the flow set for the project.
Can you manage stock by batch and shelf life?
Yes. For products and projects where this information matters, the stock record can include the batch and the expiry date.
When is FIFO used and when is FEFO used?
FIFO prioritises stock by the order it was received, while FEFO prioritises products by shelf life. The rule applied depends on the goods and the project's requirements.
What is the difference between stock management and stock reporting?
Management tracks the stock and its movements in the warehouse operationally. Reporting uses the data from the flow to present the status of stock and movements to the client.
